Week 3 Preview

In group A table toppers the Salmon Leap take on the Jacks. With the newly formed team's impressive start to the season, recording a 10-4 victory against the Shooters last week, it's hard to imagine that lowly placed Jacks will be able to stop the side of veterans. However the Jacks themselves have started off this season brighter with a draw against the Shooters, and putting up a good showing in a 9-5 defeat against Club 2000 last week, and will be up for the fight as always.
In group A's other tie, Club 2000 host the Shooters and will be looking so build on the victory last week against the Jacks, however they themselves admit that they will have to improve the performances if they are to achieve the standard set from last year.

Group B sees two teams with 100% records go head to head in the Murray and the Hunters. After hammering the Also Rans in week 1, the Murray cruised to 7-1 up last week against the Cuesters, and let the lead slide to 8-6. With the Hunters solid start to the campaign, the Murray cannot afford to be as lax this week as Chris Main's improved team visit.
Both the Also Ran's and Cuesters have yet to record a point so far, and a win for either side is a must if they are to have any chance of making the top 8 and into the main draw of the League Cup. John Burn's Cuesters may just be favourites in this one after their impressive fight back last week against the Murray.

Group C hosts the tie of the night with holder's the Entertainers facing off against the new look Top Guns. Both sides have maximum points, and something will have to give tonight. This will be the first real test of the Top Guns to see if their bolstered side are to legitimate challengers for the league this year, however in any case there should be some top class pool on display, as well as a great atmosphere in this match.
Elsewhere, the Greenhills host the Eagles and after a disappointing 10-4 defeat against the Entertainers last week, they cannot afford to drop many more points or last season’s runner's up will find themselves competing in the Silver Cup.

In Group D the Hustlers will look to continue their winning start as the league champions travel to face newly formed the Ospreys, while the Tower host the Aces with both teams poised evenly on 3 points. This is pretty much a must win game for both sides and a victory for either side will keep them in contention for the top 8.

Week 2 Preview

Tomorrow night sees the second week of the league cup group stage, and with the honeymoon period, it's down to business.

In group A the Salmon Leap travel to face the Shooters coming off the back of a magnificent 12-2 victory last week. Davie Dewar and Brian Marshall's new team were thrown straight into the fire against a solid Club 2000 team, but came through the tie with ease, although they will need to have full concentration to gain maximum points in Greenhills. Meanwhile The Jacks gained their first point of the campaign with a fine draw with the Shooters and will look to upset the Club 2000 boys, however after last weeks disappointing start to the season, no doubt Chris Bryden will have his players looking to bounce back with a big win.

Both the Murray and the Hunters recorded big home wins to start their campaigns, and this week, the two veteran teams swap opponents, with the Murray travelling to face Cuesters, and the Hunters visiting the Also Rans. Both teams will be looking to take maximum points and set up a showdown next week, however the Also Rans and Cuesters have been steadily improving over the last few years, and are more than capable of getting a result on their night.

The tie of the night takes place in Group C with the Entertainers hosting Greenhills. The 'tainers strolled to a 12-2 win last week in Eaglesham with Iain MacMillan impressing his début, but although the Greenhills fell 8-6 to rivals Top Guns last week, the Entertainers will have to keep their eye on the ball to get a result over the team that caused them big problems last season.
Elsewhere in group C, the Top Guns look to continue their good start to the season as they host the Eagles. Bolstered by the arrival of three Flukesters and Super League A team players Lee Miller, John Muir and Colin Phillip, the Top Guns will be a real force this year and will be looking the break the dominance of the Hustlers and Entertainers at the top.

Champions the Hustlers visit the Tower in group D with both teams coming off the back of solid starts to the season, with the Tower recording a 10-4 victory over Ospreys, and the Hustlers a 9-5 win over the Aces. The Tower drew with Stevie Kelly’s men at this stage in the competition last year, and will be looking to record a similar result again this year.
Lastly the Ospreys visit Whitehills to take on the Aces looking for their first points since joining the league.

League Cup Kick Off!

Season 2010/11 kicks off tonight with the first round of fixtures in the League Cup. The draw has thrown up some interesting groups with four balanced groups giving every team a fair chance of progressing.

In group A Davie Dewar and Brian Marshalls newly assembled team the Salmon Leap take on a Club 2000 side hungry for success after their best season ever last year. The Salmon Leap is stacked top to bottom of league veterans, and are one of the favourites this year to push into the top 5, however Chris Bryden has managed to keep his young guns intact and with another year's experience under their belt, they are more than a match for anyone.
A change of venue and a change of name, sees The Jacks (previously Westwood) take on The (former Greenhills) Shooters. There hasn't been much transfer talk from these sides, and will be mostly fielding the same sides that finished 16th and 13th respectively last year. This tie is too tough to call at this early, but both teams will be desperate to put last season behind them and start afresh.

Group B sees the Murray start their campaign against the Also Rans. Again, both seems will be fielding similar teams this year, making this a very tough test for the Also Rans to try and snatch some points at one of the toughest venues in the league.
Chris Main's Hunters team have welcomed back into the fold some of the old Hunter's B players after the Sharpshooters folded during the close season, and they take on newly named Centre One, the Cuesters. The Hunters had the basis of a good team last year, but were a little thin on numbers. With the addition of a few of the better Sharpshooters players, they will look to start the season strong. However John Burns has had his Cuesters players all participating in the Summer Singles, so will all the competitive practice pay off?

Group C sees probably the most exciting of the Groups. It hosts the tie of the night tonight with the Top Guns taking on rivals the Greenhills. The Greenhills had a tremendous season last year, finishing just short of 3rd place and runners up in the League Cup. They will be desperate to go one further this year and win a trophy, however the face a tough task to start with the always dangerous Top Guns, who have added more firepower with Colin Phillip joining the ranks.
Defending League Cup Winners the Entertainers start the season with a trip to the Eagles as they look to become the first team to ever retain the League Cup. If they achieved this feat, they would also become the first team to win the trophy 3 times. The Eagles lost the final of the Silver cup last year, and will be out to try and make a run at the main cup and shock the holders in the process.

In group D, double winner's the Hustlers host the Whitehills Aces. The Hustlers have had a few changes of personnel in the close season, and by the looks of things again this year, are the team to beat. The Aces have kept their core squad together, but will have their work cut out against Stevie Kelly's men.
Our final tie sees the Tower travel to play the newly formed Ospreys. The Ospreys sees a lot of the old Club 2000 players returning such as Monty Zannon and Stevie Wylie, and will give a few teams a scare this season no doubt if they can add a couple more experienced players to their ranks. The Tower are always a tough team to beat at home and will be looking to get off to a flyer in this tie.
